Demonstrates basic fundamentals of good health, knowledge, and skills found / required in the world of work. Understands the structure and function of federal, state, and local governments and the rights and responsibilities of citizenship and the importance of active community involvement.
Participates effectively in a variety of oral situations: gathering information, entertaining, persuading, listening, and evaluating. Employs critical and analytical processes when confronted with issues, problems, and decisions and demonstrates the ability to communicate ideas effectively both orally and in writing. Forms opinion, discriminates between fact and opinion, and recognizes bias in reading and listening situations. Understands the fundamentals of the American economic system, as well as other major systems.

Is knowledgeable of physical and political geography, different world cultures and historical events in order to understand their impact on past, present, and future developments.
