Dear Students,

I hope you have been having a great summer swimming, biking, boating, fishing, or maybe even READING!  I'm very excited about teaching fourth grade again.  It is going to be a busy year, but it is exciting as well...and you won't believe how quickly time flies when you are having a good time!  Please take a few minutes with your parents to read this letter carefully.  It contains important information you will need to know in order to help your first day in fourth grade to go smoothly.

Guardino's Open House will take place Wednesday, September 1st from 5:30-6:30 pm.  We look forward to meeting many of you that evening.  Open House is an opportunity for students to find their new classroom, meet their teacher, as well as drop off any supplies and/or materials they wish to in order to avoid such a chaotic first day of school.  Hopefully this new date for Open House eases many anxieties students may have, and that it helps make the transition back into another school year run a bit more smoothly.  As always, parents will be able to sign up for parent conferences at Open House too.

Our classroom is located in room 203 right next door to Mrs. Lamon and across the hall from Mr. Riddoch.  Just as last year, the school doors will open at 8:30 am and attendance will be taken at 8:50.  Please remember you are considered tardy if you arrive in the classroom after 8:50.  Therefore, arrive early enough to eat breakfast, unpack your bags, use the restroom, sharpen pencils, etc.

Listed below are the supplies I would like you to have.  As the year progresses, you may need to replace some supplies as they are used up, such as erasers and pencils.  Please remember to label all of your supplies with your first and last name before the first day of school.

  • Reusable water bottle
  • Art Smock
  • 24 #2 pencils (no mechanical pencils)
  • Set of colored pencils
  • Crayons- 24 pack
  • 2 large glue sticks
  • Nylon or plastic zippered pencil pouch
  • 2 erasable red pens
  • 2 yellow highlighters
  • 2 marble composition books
  • 1 large box of facial tissue
  • 1 roll of paper towel
  • Hand sanitizer
  • Flash cards for multiplication and division (Dollar Store or Wal-Mart carry them)

**Please no trapper keepers as there is not enough room in the student desks or lockers to accommodate them.

Please note that it is essential that your child MASTERS the basic number facts for addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.  The sooner your child knows these facts, the more successful and less stressed s/he will be.  Practice at home is a must, so I encourage your child to start over the summer!  Please don't wait until September.

This year we will also be taking a short, 5-minute snack break after our morning special.  It is your responsibility to bring a snack to school on a daily basis if you choose to eat one.  Snacks will not be provided for you.  However, your snack must be also be something healthy.  Cheese sticks, crackers, carrot sticks, fruit, etc are just a few examples of acceptable snacks.  Cupcakes, cookies, Rice Krispy treats, Pop tarts, etc. are suitable for "special" occasions such as to celebrate your birthday, but are not considered a healthy snack!  Also do not bring an extra drink for snack time.  Your water bottle will be sufficient.

If there are any questions or concerns, your parents may leave a message at school and the secretary will contact me.  Enjoy the rest of the summer, and I look forward to seeing you on the first day of school.

Thank you,

Mrs. McCullouch

P.S.  It's not too late to pick up a good book to read this summer!
