Dear Parents and Third Grade Friends,
This week has passed
by quickly. We are under a month until we will be administering the NYS ELA,
English Language Arts, and Math tests. We are working daily on strategies
to make taking the tests less stressful for the students. You may help at
home by encouraging your child to read daily and to check with them for
understanding about what they have read. Your child should already have all
of their addition and subtraction facts memorized. The multiplication and
division facts are coming along nicely for being memorized too. They do well
with making the fact families using multiplication and division.
For example: 4 x 6 =
24
6 X 4 = 24
24 4 = 6
24 6 = 4
Any extra practice
with their facts will only be helpful. Another very important part will be
to have your child well rested and to have had a nutritious breakfast for
each morning of the tests.
We have our St.
Patrick’s Day luncheon next Wednesday at noon. I really appreciate the
volunteers that will be helping us next Tuesday and or Wednesday as we
prepare the meal and learn some things together. Hopefully everyone will be
wearing green!
Keeping the Irish
theme in mind we wrote some stories this week about having: “A Little Bit of
Luck” and they will be displayed outside our classroom once each student has
finished their final copy.
The class is working
nicely as they are learning the cursive letters. Some are already developing
a legible handwriting. It takes continues practice, especially with some of
the unusual connections that change how the letter is formed independently.
Just a reminder that
we spring our clocks ahead on Saturday night and Daylight Savings Time
begins.
Thank you to Jason’s
family for treating the class to cupcakes to let us help celebrate his
birthday.
Ask your child about
their spoolmobile and what it is and what it does! I am sending a paddle
boat activity home today for your child to create and test in your sink or
bathtub!
Have an enjoyable
weekend!
