Your child's fitness score in first and second grade is based on how well they are able to sustain physical activity for the duration of the class period.
Grades 3 through 5 are given a standard fitness test. This test consists of 4 major components. Curl-ups (sit-ups), test your child's abdominal strength; the V-Sit measures flexibility; the Flexed-Arm Hang tests upper body strength and the Mile Run tests endurance. For further information regarding this test, please contact Mr. Hauck or Mrs. Robbins.
In order to receive a passing fitness grade your child needs to pass all 4 test items above the National Level. The following explanation appears in the intermediate physical education progress report.
Fitness performance descriptors are based on the Presidential Physical Fitness testing system. The test is based on norms at the 50th % in each fitness component listed below. For your child to receive a “4”, he/she must meet and/or score above the Presidential standards (85% chart ) in ALL FOUR FITNESS TEST AREAS. A “3” will be assigned if ALL scores meet and/or exceed National standards. A “2” will be given if ANY score falls below the National standards. This simply means your child needs to improve in a particular area(s). A “1” will be given if ALL scores fall below the National standards (chart below).
