Calculator Policy:

NYS requires the use of the graphing calculator on NYS Math Regents’ exams.  In order for students to be proficient with the calculator, they need to use it daily.  This will help you to be more successful in all high school math courses.  A calculator will be made available for use in the classroom; however, the calculators will not be available for use outside the classroom (ie for homework assignments).  Please be aware that no student will be excused from any homework assignment because they “do not have their own calculator”.  The calculator of choice is a TI-84+; however, the TI-84, TI-83+ or TI-83 are acceptable models.  These calculators can be purchased at Staples, Wal-Mart, Sam’s Club, and Best Buy at a cost of approximately $70 - $100.  Other purchase options could be explored; such as, Resale America, E-Bay, Amazon.com, older siblings/family members, and layaway.  Please understand that this calculator will be used for every math class you take while in high school, it is not just for 9th grade.  Currently, several colleges are also using this same model.  If you are financially unable to purchase a calculator, you will need to contact me as soon as possible to discuss your options.

Classroom Expectations:

1)  No disruptions (talking, throwing things, cell phones, i-pods, getting up during instruction, etc.).

2)  Come to class on time and prepared to learn.  Bring your notebook, homework assignment, and

     a writing utensil.

3)  If needed, you are to use the bathroom and/or get a drink before class.  Leaving the classroom

will only be allowed in emergency situations.  If an emergency arises, please fill out your agenda

with the date, time, and destination and ask me to sign it.

4)  You are expected to be on task and following directions.  Class time is to be used for mathematics.

5)  You are required to take notes daily.

6)  Respect for myself, classmates, and our classroom is demanded.

7)  You should stay seated until class is dismissed (do not line-up at the door waiting for the bell).
