Unit 5:  Elevations

Elevations

Activity 5.4.1:  Elevations are drawings that are used to visually explain details that would be too difficult or tedious to explain with words. Think about how much time would be wasted if an architect had to be at the building site explaining where to put the colored tile on a wall and what the final design should look like or where to mount the towel bars in a bathroom. Also, imagine how much time it would take to go around a building and mark where all the exterior lighting or shutters should be mounted. Elevations eliminate the need for verbal explanations that can often be misunderstood with individual instructions. Elements that are found on elevations are those that are touching the surface or elevation is being drawn from.
