bullet

Structural Calculations

I.

Design data

• Fy=50,000 psi (Steel)

• Dead Load =55 psf

• Live Load 50 psf (Commercial Office building - 2nd Floor -)

• Assume the weight of the floor beams and girders is included in the Dead Load above.

a) Calculate the beam loading.

Answer:

b) Calculate End Reactions and Moment for the beam selected in Part a.

Reaction ____________________________

Maximum Moment_____________________

Answer:

 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
II.  Determine Footing Size
Calculate the Minimum Square footing size for the given column loads. Size the
footing to the nearest 6 inches (e.g. 1’-6” x 1’-6”).
• Dead Load=50,000 lbs
• Live Load =65,000 lbs
• Assume thickness of footing 12”
• Weight of Concrete 150 lb/ft3
• Allowable Soil Bearing Capacity = 2,500 lb/ft2
Include the weight of the footing in your
calculations.
