Utilities - Any service provided by an offsite supplier.

Gas, Electric, Water, Garbage, Sewer, Cable, Internet...

Distribution Main - The primary trunk line used for distributing water, gas, or electricity within a specific area or region

Main - The public pipe or wire that conveys a utility from one point to another.

Panel Box - The electrical enclosure where the service is connected to the individual circuits in the structure.

Potable Water - Raw or treated water that is considered safe to drink.

Weatherhead - Special fitting used to attach an electrical service line to a building or structure.

  • The secondary site investigation phase of a project involves site access, utility availability, and transportation.
    • electric - availability?  above or under ground?  cost?  phases & voltages?
    • gas - natural?  cost?  runs?  plan for future?
    • water service delivery - private (well) or public (village)?  main adequately sized (public)?  drilled or dugged (private)?  treatment system?  supply lines below frost lines? 
    • sewage disposal - public main or onsite treatment facility?  adequately sized?  separate mains to handle manufacturing or chemical waste?  pre-treated on site?  regulations?  permits?  types of inspections?
